Why Gov. Obaseki Sacked Environment Commissioner

Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki, has fired the state commissioner of Environment and Sustainability, Mr. Reginald Okun, over the recent protest by the state street sweepers.

In a statement signed by Secretary to the State Government, Osarodion Ogie, the state government directed the officials to “handover their assignments to the most senior government official in their offices with immediate effect. They are also to handover all government property in their possession to the appropriate authorities.”

The sweepers had taken to the streets to protest the non-payment of their allowances for six months.

Immediately he got wind of their protest, the state governor terminated the appointment of the commissioner and retired the General Manager, Edo State Waste Management Board, Aiyamenkue Akonofua. A source in the governor’s office said he saw the protest as an embarrassment to his administration.

Wow! Six months long die!
