The young boy who went viral after he paced his WEAC with
all As and had a very high JAMB score has been denied admission and people are
angered by this.
David Okorogheye, from Delta state, had 336 in JAMB and 9As
in WAEC. His course of choice was Medicine and his university of choice was
UNILAG. But the institution denied
him admission on the ground of his age.
David is 15 and a candidate must be 16 years before he/she
can be offered admission into UNILAG. As a result, David was not allowed to
take part in the post UTME exams. He was told to try again next year when he
comes of age.
News of this angered Nigerians and there were efforts to
contact relevant authorities to see if he could be considered for special
admission but Sun News reports that UNILAG authorities said the law must be
followed.
David, who hopes to become a neurosurgeon, has resigned
himself to fate and will try again next year to study medicine.
His interest in the medical profession came about from
watching doctors battle to save the life of his late father when he was 8 years
old. Since then, David vowed to study medicine so he can save lives and will
not let this minor setback stop him.
Can you imagine? Ageism in 2018?
Haven't they heard of that Nigerian family, the Imafidons, who are the most brilliant people in the UK? Those kids blasted BSc in diapers...
And our authorities won't stop lamenting the issue of brain drain, ignoring the fact that they are facilitators of same.
